Fall Fashion

Londoners can successfully and sadly say that the summer is over. Actually, there was never any summer. It is lonely souls like me, who didn't go on holiday who are now suffering depression.
What's the best cure for depression? Shopping!! (No, not chocolate ice cream)..

I found expensive stuff, that's what women do right? So please enjoy because I think this time I chose really well..

A coat. A tweed and cotton coat is exactly what I was looking for. The colour matches any outfit and the design is classic and feminine.

Miu Miu, Wool blend tweed cape, 1370gbp

This Yves Saint Laurent sweater is perfect. It is a classic piece that can be kept forever. It is a day/night option. Wear it with a pencil skirt and a thin belt at work, pair it with heels and trousers for a more 70s look. Be daring and wear it with something red for real impact.
YSL knitted cashmere and silk blend sweater, 880gbp

Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice!! I love it. It is a basic, everyone must own one of these. They keep coming back every season. That's a sign right? Wear it with skinny jeans and ballerinas for a Sunday lunch :P
Alice & Olivia, Presley striped cashmere sweater, 250 gbp

I believe that every season a girl deserves a ring. It doesn't have to be expensive, but a ring can be the key accessory to a whole season. If you wear a plain white shirt, black trousers and wear this ring, im sure the attention will be all yours. Sometimes less is more, remember!
Lara Bohino Metropolis Ring, 140gbp

Now, a killer bag. A green bag for example. This Mulberry satchel is perfect for any occassion. It is very casual, but remember that a casual bag with the right shoes can make all the difference. Wear it, show it off.
Mulberry Taylor oversized satchel matte, 950 gbp

Finally the sunglasses. These Exclusive to Liberty sunglasses are the perfect 'retro kick' to any outfit. Super cute, and super trendy. Visit Liberty's website to find more designs.
RetroSuperFuture Poppy & Daisy Retro Lucia Liberty, 130 gbp

Kudos Fall! Xx

Nails

Once again, I had to do some digging and try to find new colours for the season.
I did my part, now you go and buy them.

So, first of all forget about neons. Personally, I think it's more about bold, bright colours rather than super neon orange. Remember it has to be bright, but not too bright. This is England. Keep it casual.

Models Own is always my first choice. Why? Because they have a huge selection of colours. They even separate them into sections, making it easier to choose (not that it ever is). Rather than updating their collection, and forgetting about old colours, they keep them in case you want a top up. Visit their website and choose your favourite.
tangerine queen, 5 pounds Models Own.

Purple Poppy, 5 pounds, Models Own

Garnet, 5 pounds, Models Own

Topshop Makeup has been good to me in the past. Ever since their launch we all knew it was going to be a success because whatever Topshop touches, it turns to gold. Unlike ModelsOwn, they don't have a lot of colours, which is understandable, they cover so many concessions and trends that it must be hard to catch up. Topshop, a piece of advice? Expand your colour range and these little babies will sell like mulled wine on a winter's day.

Country Bumpkin, 5 pounds Topshop

Metallic Nails in Treasure, 6 pounds, Topshop

Finally we have NailGirls. Nail Girls sells products online, but it is also a nail salon.Their products are not cheap, but they update their collection every season, and they just seem to get it right every time. Last summer I bought a bright flamingo pink from their summer collection and it turned out to be a hit because no other nail company I know had that exact colour. Shame..
Now they have come up with darker shades, and I like it.

Coral #3 Orange Blush, 10.50 pounds NailGirls

Green #2 Dark Olive, 10.50 pounds NailGirls

As you can see there is a wide option of colours out there. It is all about your personality and adapting what is out there to your fashion needs. Don't be afraid to mix and match colours, or to try designs.
Remember to always use a top coat as it will give the colour that extra shine to make your nails look super fly.

Kudos Nails! Xx

COCOMAYA Fine Chocolatier and Artisan Baker

Cocomaya has three locations in London. They are popular, and that is because they are good.

One would expect that a chef or a restaurant owner would also own this, but it isn't the case. Cocomaya was founded by the former head of concept at Liberty and the accessories and fashion consultant. What a great pair if you ask me.

Cocomaya operates on a 'hand made philosophy', which gives each and every one of their products a very unique and home-made taste.

With a wide selection of artisan breads, seasonal fruit tarts and even wheat free items, there is no one who can resist.

Pop in at any of their locations in Connaught Street, Porchester Place or Pavilion Road to try a piece of heaven!

Pretty T-Shirts

T-Shirts are necessary objects in a woman's wardbrobe. T-shirts represent a part of you as I said once, and they are queens of the casual look. If t-shirts are chosen properly, the final outcome of the outfit can be very satisfying. :)

I am ready to shop for some tees myself since the fall is approaching. It is always an awkward season and I find it hard to cope with the weather changes and the Mary Poppins winds. On days when I don't have to dress up too much, I always opt for a nice tee, jeans and maybe a colourful cardi, with a nice pattern, or a blazer. It depends how 'fancy' i want my casual to be.
T-Shirts have also been transformed into something that you can wear with skirts, long or short it doesn't matter. It just works. Imagine a Mickey Mouse tshirt paired with a school girl skirt in navy blue. How sweet...

Here is my selection so far..

This 80s tshirt is perfect to wear with jeans, leggings, even denim shorts if the weather allows you to. Be inventive, wear a denim jacket, make it dramatic, crazy make up, even tights.

Beyond Retro 80s tshirt, 11 pounds

This Ramones t-shirt is a basic. Every girl has a bit of Rock & Roll inside. Sunday t-shirt definitely.
Ramones t-shirt, New Look, 12.99

This generation of design is all about crazy robots. Paperchase has done it, Joy has done it, even New Look have done it. After gym clothes and going for a coffee or a pint? This is the t-shirt for it!
Robot Disco t-shirt New Look, 8.99 or 2 for 12 pounds

A Mickey Mouse tee is also an invaluable purchase. It's like denim, it never goes out of trend. It is a brand after all. Pair it with a skirt and brogues. Walk and smile.
Vintage Mickey t-shirt New Look, 12.99

Moving on to a bit more creative prints. I adore this t-shirt, my Mexican side is roaring with excitement, and my Mexican self has already purchased this beauty. I love the colours, there is a topshop ring that matches the tee yei!
Day of the Dead tank, Urban Outfitters 25 pounds

Another Urban Outfitters creation is this tee. The Navajo print takes all the attention, so wear with black or brown, and bangles, lots and lots of them!!!
Navajo crop tee, Urban Outfitters 28 pounds

Finally, the cheapest yet coolest purchase of the week has to be this Barbie tee from Uniqlo. OMG, it is so cute and I just can't resist it. The pale green, the barbie... pink Dr. Marten's and pink lipstick.. that's all it takes.
Barbie t-shirt, Uniqlo 2.90

Kudos T-shirts, and thanks for making my wardrobe so much fun!

Bottoms Up Drinks. After Hours Delivery Service

I can't stop looking for 24 hour venues. Or anything of the sort. Believe it or not, there is not much variety.
However, I found Bottoms Up Drinks, a website where your dreams come true.
How many times have you ran out of alcohol at a party or had a sudden drunken impulse to go and buy a bottle of vodka, but the vodka is nowhere to be seen??? The solution is Bottoms Up, I swear..

They deliver almost anywhere in London, if you don't believe me check their website where you can find if your postcode is in there, and trust me, it probably will be if you live in Laaandaaannn.

They deliver within 30 minutes, anytime from 6pm until 6am, so technically you are covered for the night.
The selection of spirits, beer (in cans and bottles, bless), soft drinks and wine is really really good. There is also champagne in case you wanna have a late night date or  on your own watching re runs of Friends with a takeaway.

Prices? Well, it is expensive, but according to my knowledge of alcohol prices, they just add 10 pounds for delivery in the actual bottle price. Another expensive treat, I guess 24 hour stuff is no cheap affair!!!!!

Call them!!
Kudos Xx

Vingt Quatre 24 hour food

This lovely, small venue is located in Fulham Road. It has been acclaimed as the best place to go, WHENEVER!

Vingt Quatre is open seven days a week, 24 hours a day! It has been designed to satisfy the needs of those who have 'difficult' working hours, hangover students, dating lovers and tipsy people who get the munchies. The best part is that it works.

Contrary to popular belief, a 24 hour restaurant does not necessarily have to look like an American diner in the middle of nowhere, nor a kebab shop. This place is clean, pretty and the staff is attentive and quick.
Considering I have been there early, way too early, like 2AM I can safely say my hamburger was delicious and the waiter was quick and kinda funny... witty man considering the time..

The menu is high quality, and although it is not the cheapest, it is not expensive either. I mean, if you can afford to go for drinks around the area, you can definitely afford a night-time snack at Vingt Quatre. The variety is amazing, with salads and burgers, fish and chips and tasty deserts and all sorts of drinks.

Be warned, there is a bouncer outside in the night time so don't even think of showing up too drunk. The alcohol is quite expensive, but again, if you can afford it you will love it.

Nearest tube stations: Gloucester Road and South Kensington

Kudos times 24 Vingt Quatre!!!.

Scala Forever

Scala forever means movies and more movies. It started on the 13th of August, and it will run until the 2nd of October, 2011.
The "festival's" slogan is 'taking cinema back to the future'. How cool is that??! We all know that the past few years have been terrible for the film industry, not financially, but just creatively. I am glad someone thought of giving us some old school lovin' and handing us this prize.

The tickets are 6 pounds, or 15 pounds for the all-nighters, so if you want to try something different, go to any Scala venue and see what they are showing.

On the closing night on 2nd of October, 'A Clockwork Orange' will be screening. It is one of my personal favourites, and I can't seem to stop watching it.

Buy your tickets, go with mates, with a girl, with a boy, or alone. The good thing about cinema, is that people don't judge if you show up on your own to watch a 'vintage' film. It even makes you look interesting, so there you go single people, take note...

Shambala Festival 2011

This festival, which is advertised as 4 days of Magic, Music and Mayhem is the perfect example of what a festival should be.

It always takes place in the countryside, and it satisfies all types of audience.
Some of the things the Shambala Festival has to offer include 200 music acts across 9 stages, cabaret and theatre and all sorts of fun activities. Poetry, sculpture and even circus acts will be taking place in this magical event.

Everything inside the festival is powered by sustainable oil, so it is definitely a 'Guilt Free Festival'.

Visit the website for more information on how to get there and all the extra things the festival has to offer, it takes place this weekend, so if you manage to go, have fun!!!!

Kudos Shambala Festival! Xx

Hoodie Allen's Chase is on..

When you come across a white rapper that is good enough, you blog about it.
When that rapper happens to be cute as well, you definitely blog about it.

Steven Markowitz, aka, Hoodie Allen is the newest addition to my playlist.
This kid, born in New York and raised in Long Island is full of talent. He has worked for Google in the past, and used to come home at night to write music, a true inspiration if you ask me. It's like Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory, just fitter and rapping.

His latest single, The Chase is On, has already made it to the top of Hype Radio's Playlist and his latest Mixtape, 'Making Waves' had more than 200,000 plays at soundcloud.

His rhythm is catchy, energetic, and young. It reminds me of a bit of Matisyahu's positivism meets Whiz Kalifa's beats, sort of...

Make sure to download his music, and support it! He is really talented, and I am hoping he can come to London soon and make us jump!

Kudos Hoodie!!!Xx

Five and Nine Clubhouse E2, Secret Rooftop

This beautiful venue located in the heart of East London is the trendy spot in London at the moment.

The rooftop, which is in front of a church, is unique and stylish, with elements that create a sense of being in a very peaceful, yet groovy sitting area.

Feel free to snug next to the fire, while contemplating the first 'Living Wall'. A work of art created by Patrick Blanc. The wall is filled with plants and flowers that grow vertically. Giving the impression of modernism and nature all in one.

The Five and Nine Clubhouse in Shoreditch has already been shortlisted for the 2011 International Bar & Club Awards. One of the reasons is its uniqueness and the ability to adapt for its clients.
The staff will definitely fulfill all of your needs while you relax and enjoy an evening of decadence in this fairy garden.

Kudos Secret Rooftop! I guess you're not so secret anymore!Xx

BTW, it is available for private hire!

The Shape of Things To Come: New Sculpture

The Saatchi Gallery is hosting an exhibition about New Sculpture.
Because I believe art is relative, I will tell you what it is about and then you can go and see it for yourselves, because it is very very cool.

The Shape of Things to Come features artists from all around the world. The exhibition has been running since May and it is finished on the 16th of October, so buy a ticket and go, because it is worth it.

My favourite artist is David Batchelor, who creates sculptures with very unusual elements. He calls them 'Material Leftovers' and it is just objects he finds on the streets of London. When I read that I found it extremely original, at least someone is recycling and it actually looks cool. Not that I'm against it, but recycled stuff always looks and smells funky..

He is not the only one showcasing work, but definitely he is the most colourful one!

Incredible mixtures of objects and colours

Fall's Favourites

The summer is slowly coming to an end. As we prepare to put away swimsuits and shorts, we open the door to new trends, new colour schemes, and definitely new weather.

This fall apparently it's all a bit more glamorous. The colder weather gives us the opportunity to wear more layers, more accessories, but always remember to stay true to your style. Living in London makes it easier for everybody to explore different trends, to mix, to create.

I read somewhere that this fall is all about skirts, shorts are no more apparently. So, instead of posting pictures of skirts, I found more suitable things that can always be combined with them.

Also, most of the items in this section are from shops located in Angel, Islington, however there are some exceptions.

The first item on the list is a top with birds on a wire. How cute is that? Pair it with a skirt and nice pumps for the daytime or change to killer heels for a more 'innocent but sexy' look.

Bird on a Wire Top by Poem. 35 pounds, Oliver Bonas

The next three items are dresses. A fall without dresses is zero, that's why I had to find a few that were colourful, with nice retro prints and a retro shape. That wasn't tough, they are everywhere. Topshop has them in different colours and patterns, but the shape is always the same. Look for other high street options such as New Look, River Island and Miss Selfridge until you find the perfect dress.

Trollied Dolly Mandarin Dress. 55 pounds, Oliver Bonas

Louche Delfina Spot Pleat Dress. 55 pounds, JOY

Louche Dale Geometric Cut-Out Dress. 55 pounds, JOY

Last of all are the accessories, and this time I chose bags. Like dresses, fall makes it perfect to try out vintage styles and raw colours. Whether you prefer clutches, totes, or just massive bags, there is always an option out there. You can't go wrong with leather, just make sure your pieces are always clean and that the leather is in good condition. You want a vintage look, not a homeless look.

1960s Vintage Hand Held Bag. 24 pounds, Beyond Retro

Fold Over Bag. Leather and cotton canvas. 165 pounds, Toast

As you can see, fashion is more and more fun everyday. It is more open and full of options. Remember to follow the trends, but stick to what suits you and what is adequate to your personality.
Scarfs are also big, go to any vintage shop and buy a few, they tend to be very cheap and their colourful patterns willyour the outfit that extra kick.. Wear it in your hair, around your neck, or as a belt.. use your imagination!!

Kudos Fall! Xx

Andrea Navarro. Art is everywhere

Art is everywhere is a new section of my blog. It features young talent from around the world within the Creative Industries.
My first choice for this article is someone extremely talented. Her name is Andrea Navarro.
Andrea Navarro was born in Guadalajara, Mexico, the second daughter to a lawyer and a painter. This combination of professions definitely helped to shape the Andrea we know and love; creative, determined and passionate.

After studying most of her life in Catholic Schools, she took a gap year after high school to exploit her artistic talents. She enroled in an 'Art and Design' course at Saint Martins, and from there everything kicked off.

She fell in love with London, like most of us do. She managed to prolong her stay by enrolling in as many short courses as she could fit in her schedule. By the end of the school year she was already gifted and applauded in Shoe and Handbag Making, Mixed Media Painting, Sculpture and Oil Painting to name a few.

This is what I love about her. The diversity, the harmony, the ability to do many different types of art and cross boundaries without any fear.

Now she lives in Guadalajara Mexico, where she is currently finishing a degree in Product Design.
Her style is so different and fresh, that on her first year as a university student she was approached by an interior design company to take part as one of their designers.

Her experience is not only found inside the canvas, she has slowly learnt about the business of Art. When in Mexico, she works as an Art Gallery Assistant, for the Natera Gallery, the place where she has observed how art is curated, sold, transported and produced.

At the age of 23 she has exhibited her work in Reina Sofia in Madrid, London, Mexico and New York. She is currently one of the finalists for a Tequila competition, in which a  tequila barrel has to be creatively transformed into something fun. Her work is going to be showcased around the country, not to mention the high sum of money that she might win.

Andrea Navarro is my favourite product designer, her creativity is unlimited and her approach to art is unique!
