Song of the Day. Get Down

Nas..
Perfect verses.

Banana White Chocolate Cake.

I love cake. Enough said..

Here's the recipe:

CAKE INGREDIENTS

175g/6oz unsalted butter
175g/6oz caster sugar
3 large eggs
2 ripe bananas, mashed
250g/9oz self-raising flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder

FILLING INGREDIENTS

2 bananas
juice of 1 lemon
1 tablespoon rosewater (i didn't use it so it's optional i guess)
150ml/5fl oz creme fraiche

ICING

200g/7oz good-quality white chocolate, broken into pieces. I used green & black's...yum!

This cake takes 20 min to prepare and 35 min to cook. If you don't have the proper cake tins, just use a muffin tray. This is so tasty, it's edible in any shape... trust me..
However, if you want to make a filling, you need to have 2 cake tins. 7inches or anything similar.

First, preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas mark 4. Brush your baking tin/tray with melted butter and dust with flour. This will prevent the cake from sticking.

Cream together the butter and sugar, whisk in the eggs and the mashed banana. Sift the flour and baking powder into the mixture and fold in well.

Divide the batter between the two tins, and bake for about 40 min. Leave the cakes in the tins for 10 minutes, then turn out on a wire rack to cool. Or a plate.. or a flat/clean surface... I know we're not all bakers..

To make the filling, slice the bananas very thinly and toss in the lemon juice. Let them sit there for a bit and soak up all the juice.

Mix the rosewater into the creme fraiche and spread this on to one of the cooled cake rounds, top with the sliced bananas and sandwich the two cakes together.

Cake filling

Melt the chocolate and the butter in a heatproof bowl suspended over a saucepan of barely simmering water. Simple.

Spread the melted chocolate mixture evenly over the top and sides of the cake, starting by pouring it into the centre of the top of the cake and spreading it with a palette knife/spoon/anything flat and clean lolz. until it begins to dribble down the sides of the cake.

Animal Party Weekend @ Old Vic Tunnels

I'm sure Ke$ha would be up for this one.
9-10 March, 2012. 10pm til 3am

The party is all about dancing like a beast and of course, dressing like a beast..
It is compulsory to pay 20 pounds for the costume hire, but the things that will be taking place that night will be worth it. With prizes, a bucking bronco and popcorn candy floss, this party promises a night of wild fun. There's even going to be a hot tub, but I don't know if I would be comfortable getting in there. Once you're drunk I guess it doesn't matter..

10% of every ticket goes to the conservation of Pygmy Hippos.

Buy your tickets!!!!

Song of the Day. Twentysomething

When Jamie Cullum released his first album 'Twentysomething' I always used to skip the song with the same title. I was not in my twenties so I had no clue what the hell he was blabbing about. Plus I'm Mexican, it's a different drill altogether. I just wasn't interested..
However, I have always stayed a loyal fan. I've been listening to him a lot lately and now when I listen to this song I understand. And I get sad. But hey, it's cool...

Sometimes you have to get older to understand..

Home Alone

I'm all by myself in a big empty living room. Everyone I live with has better things to do than blog, so I got stuck with the job of finding some new deco for my big flat. Muahaha.

Let's begin this journey of joy (if you knew Bob Ross, you know what I mean)..

A doormat is always necessary. You just don't know it yet. I was browsing through BombayDuck, and I just forgot how beautiful half of their stuff is. I'm sure the same will happen to you, and you will buy a doormat.  They have lots of different designs, so it's only a matter of time before you give in.

BombayDuck is not only home to pretty dormats, it also hosts a cute collection of tea sets. The teapot below makes me want to be the Mad Hatter. Just wondering if a little mouse will pop out of it?

Bin bags ... with Goldfish?! SOLD!!!!!!!!! Every set contains 12 fun bin bags, there are other designs available at StylishLife, but to be honest,  the Goldfish design takes the biscuit.

Three words... Bunny, Salad, Servers. Wow..
Available at Totally Funky.

Let's talk wall stickers. How do we feel about Wall Stickers? I've seen them everywhere. They do seem like a cool option of deco for bars and restaurants. A friend of mine has one in his room, and it rocks the casbah!
So, I found this British Phone Box at RedCandy, a place where everything they sell is red. Duh.
I like the design, it is not super affordable, but being trendy never is...
The design is not like 'blowing my mind' but it's ok. I guess it doesn't go with my living room..and this officially defeats the purpose of looking for things for MY living room. Oops.

I love custard creams. Specially when they come shaped as stools. Go to Hunky Dory Home and see what other treats have been turned into furniture.

There's always the option of actually going to a shop and looking at stuff, but there's something so appealing about staying at home. Warm.
