Beach Bag Frenzy!

I am an accessories freak. My closet? Plain and sometimes quite boring, but my accessories. Oh, those take the prize.
I have shoes, bags, scarfs, necklaces, clutches, earrings, rings sunglasses, all of the above, in every colour, shape and size. I Have it all, but then who doesn't nowadays?
I blame my mother, she is the one who taught me how to accumulate stuff up to the point of almost becoming a hoarder. She used to say that Fashion is a cycle, and well she was not wrong. I just end up keeping a lot of stuff 'Just in Case'. I need a closet cleaning soon.

So, I did some digging, and whatever your style, I found the perfect summer totes (hoarding is forgotten now). Some more expensive than others, but all of these have their very own characteristic style and I love them all, or well, my alter egos love them.

This is an Anya Hindmarch Boat Bag Tote. I love the colour, I love the straps and I just love how it is perfect for a sunny day. Find it at Selfridges, Harrods or net-a-porter. 85 pounds.

Ok, this MARC by Marc Jacobs bag is absolutely divine! What's not to love? The colour is amazing, and that little purse on the side is the perfect complement to carry your valuables in, don't you think?
The price? 155 pounds.

Let me introduce you to the Lanvin Leaf Tote. It is amazing. Well, it is Lanvin after all. I love how they always go the extra mile. <3.
This bag is approximately 470 pounds. It goes with everything, and the print is the perfect accessory for this summer's trend!

I am Mexican, and I can't deny my roots. I love love love this Navajo Blanket  tote. It reminds me of a 70s Pocahontas. It is more affordable than the rest, and to me, it looks like the perfect companion for a day out in Portobello. 28 pounds. Urban Outfitters.

And Etsy as usual has another great one. This tote is only 10 DOLLARS!!! It is amazing. I love the Vintage Bike, plus how many people are going to have a tote like this?! Love it! Buy It!

Kudos Totes!

Cannes Film Festival 2011.

Hm. Today I was reading all the updates for this year's Cannes Film Festival, which will be taking place from the 11th to the 22nd May.
Last year, the festival's President was Tim Burton, but this year, things are about to get interesting.

We have to admit that 2010 was not the best year for movies. Unfortunately, nowadays we have to pay to watch remakes, sequels, prequels... and the list goes on.. 3D movies, video games made into movies, comics made into movies, gosh, even Justin Bieber made a movie!

What happened to the good old cinema? Where have all the super funny comedies gone? Where are the romcom hunks? Where are those actors who used to make us cry with their performances?
Hey, I am not saying Hollywood does not have things to offer, however, it is going through a transition. A transition that does not work for everybody... the trend of 'Lets be younger'.

For example, I love Anne Hathaway and James Franco is incredibly attractive, and talented... but for real? Having them hosting the Oscars was not the best choice. The Academy Awards are a classic tradition that is meant to be serious, glamorous. Well, it wasn't this year.
Disney kids are also EVERYWHERE! Miley Cyrus suddenly sings and acts, Selena Gomez made a movie with the chick from Gossip Girl, and even the Jonas Brothers did a sequel to their first movie..
There was a first one, do your research.

Celebrities are all trying to be 'cool', sending their own films to Sundance, Cannes and God knows where. We are the ones that have to deal with this!
Some people are talented singers, others are good actors, but only few can be both!! Us viewers are the only ones that can decide what to watch, so I urge you not to promote anything that is not of quality!

Due to all of this.. lack of talent, I was excited to see that Uma Thurman and Jude Law were going to be part of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival. I am glad to see that the french have a bit more brain. They don't fool around inviting random people to their event.

To begin with, the opening film is the very acclaimed 'Midnight in Paris', directed by Woody Allen, so I suppose that can't be a bad start, weird maybe, but not bad...

The Festival has a lot of things to offer outside from films and documentaries. The Kobal Collection of the 'World of Pinup' will be exhibited throughout the festival, with images of our favourite actresses such as Marilyn Monroe and Rita Hayworth amongst other celebrities posing and looking glamorous and seductive.

For those of us who did not receive an invitation :(, Cannes Festival, along with Orange have created a free app that will be available on the 7th of May. This app will have full coverage of the festival, with news and interviews that will be updated constantly. Also, it will be possible to find interesting facts about the movies in the competition and all of the attendees and jury members. Movie trailers and a daily photo gallery will also be available.
I can't wait to see the trailers! I hope there is something good out there!

Kudos Cannes Film Festival!!! xx

Crazy Essential.

Web surfing is ever so dangerous! I always come across the most amazing things..

This clutch came from Irregular choice, a website full of incredible things. Clutches with gorgeous bows and funky patterns, crazy shoes that only the most intrepid can wear.. sigh.. so much stuff out there!

You can't go wrong with a Toy Watch.  Even though I have never been a good friend of Yellow, specially mustard, this is not so bad. I love this watch because this shade of yellow, is the perfect match for a 70s look. The colour looks kind of Vintage don't you think? (124.99 pounds)

These earrings are from Punky Pins, another cool website selling everything from crazy jewellery to all sorts of accessories. These earrings make me think of my mom. She used to skate and well, it is just plain cool. If she was my age she would definitely wear them. Remember, it is all about having fun. Yei!

This coin purse is ADORABLE! i love rainbows and clouds and all of those surreal creatures, but this one takes the prize.  It is a must for the summer!!

Last but not least, I found this playsuit in French Connection. It is amazing. Plain, yet classy and I love how it seems extremely comfortable.  The kind of playsuit you wear on a Sunday morning with big glasses and a nice pair of flat sandals. And then you bump into a really hot guy and you don't feel that you look too bad for a Sunday.
Trust me, the playsuit will do the trick! Prize? 77 pounds. Not that it matters, because in my opinion, this jumpsuit is recycling material for future seasons. Word.

Make Up Time! just Make Believe..

Doing our make up when the weather starts getting warm can get complicated. Not only do we sweat and end up staining our faces and having to 're-do' it constantly throughout the day, but we also go out a lot more (because it's sunny outside and all that), and that implies having to swap our day outfit and make up for a more suitable evening style.

First of all, it is important to remember that fashion is not only clothes and shoes. It goes way beyond that, covering everything from hair and make up to the way you portray yourself. Fashion is meant to be fun and creative. This season gives us the opportunity to do something different, something that can be a bit crazier than usual.

The make up style of the season has to be Pastel colours.
Everything has to look very simple and casual. Using a light colour as an eyeshadow, it can be anything from lavender, to mint green to canary colours.
The lips have to be light pink or something very neutral.
This look is perfect for a sunny day out, you will look fresh and cute without too much effort.

The alter ego of this look is the Disco look. There has to be some frizzy hair, with psychedelic glitter on the eyelids. This is not the time to be shy, if you're going out with the girls, a lot of glitter will do the trick. It is adventurous I know, but try it out and I am sure you will feel like a diva on the dancefloor of Studio 54. Don't forget to finish the look with a bright coloured lipstick, burgundy or bright pink will do the trick.
It is essential to remember that for this look it is never too much, so be creative, mix some colour and finish it all with a killer dress and heels.

In order to pull off a good neutral look it is essential to find a good foundation. Sally Hansen's spray foundation is great for the summer because it lasts pretty much all day, making you look pretty every hour of the day.

Another key make up piece for this season is the Sephora's Dusk Till Dawn Eyeshadow. It comes with three different shades of 'Lavender' with a light one, a purple one and a deep, sparkly brown and purple shade. It is not expensive, costing only 17 dollars! It is the perfect item to keep on your purse, once the day begins, you apply some lavender and as the day goes by you can turn to a deeper shade to give that killer look.

Finally, a lipstick. This shade of pink was made popular by Emma Stone, it's called Show Orchid so go and buy it!

Pop Cakes. What a Trend!

Everywhere I go nowadays, coffee shops around London are selling 'Pop Cakes', which are pretty much cake on a stick.
This little new trend has taken London by surprise and even Starbucks is selling its own kind, with pink sparkles or rocky road.
If you think that sounds tasty, you haven't tasted anything yet. Somewhere around West London I came across the Pop Bakery, a lovely family run business where in their own words is 'The Home of English Cake Pop'.
According to their website, mother and daughter started making Pop Cakes and sticking to the classic pop cake style, with basic sprinkles in different colours. After a while, I assume creativity must have kicked in because they have made Pop Cakes in every shape and form, from animals to mermaids. Not only do they sell Pop Cakes but they also sell real size cakes. Both the pop cakes and the normal cakes can have any requirement you request. These girls love nothing more than a challenge!
The prices are extremely affordable, with Pop Cakes starting from 2 pounds and cakes costing 35 pounds. That is a cheap price for works of art don't you think? Oh, and you can pay with Pay Pal.

Kudos!

Here are some examples of their work:

What are you waiting for? Go and try them out!

Wedding Gifts

I had already discussed how Wedding Season is here. Not only do we have to think of what to wear, how to match it, etc. Now, it's time to also think about what to buy the future Mr and Mrs.
At The Gift-Library I managed to find some suitable presents for newlyweds.

This website is not cheap, but wedding presents never really are anyway.
Gift Library offers luxury gifts for all occasions, selling designer homeware for all kinds of styles.

The first thing I saw was a lighter by Katharine Pooley. It makes a great accessory for a living room. It can also be used to light candles, you don't need to be a smoker to have it. That's the beauty of it. The price is 165 pounds.

I also found a Cashmere Robe. Yes, Cashmere ... robe... wow..
This beauty was designed by the Monogrammed Linen Shop and it costs 1,100 pounds. Hey, if it's one of your close relatives getting married and you happen to earn good money to spend it on a mint green cashmere robe, go ahead, you have my approval!

Not everyone who goes to weddings can afford to buy presents all the time. Some of the people I know have to attend four weddings this season, and that includes travel expenses, outfits, etc. Some of those people only got an invitation for the party.
You see, when you are only invited for the party you still have to give a gift, but if you feel like your feelings have been hurt, there is always chocolate.
This Iain Burnett 48 Chocolate Piece Box is only 47 pounds. It is beautiful and edible, it can't get much better than that. Give it as a present for the bride and groom to enjoy during their honeymoon. What people don't realise about chocolate is that it is something that people love. It is very rare to find someone who doesn't like it, but there's the odd one.
Chocolates demonstrate love, flavour, passion.. many emotions at once.

Kudos to all of those getting married soon and to all of those who managed to get the full invitation to a beautiful wedding!

La France

Going to France is always great. Although the weather in the French Riviera wasn't Ideal, to me it was perfect.
France always has this air of relaxation, where even the toughest end up sitting outside a Bistro facing the sea and having a chat with some wine and ciggies.

I must admit there was not much going on. The film festival is not starting until May, so the promenade was quiet and peaceful. It was quite the change. After three years of going to Cannes during summer rush, this time was a lot more... personal.

I decided to take some pictures of the most memorable things of my trip, so here it goes.

My first stop was VICTORIA CASAL COUTURE, where on previous years I have purchased the most extraordinary Hello Kitty items, such as a really cool bling bling necklace. It is not real diamonds, but who cares?
This time, there was only children's clothes and accessories. Can't deny it was beautiful, but there was nothing there for me, so I had to find something else to make me feel better.
Maybe in the summer they will re-stock and new items will arrive!

These are my nephew's Converse. I found them in a small shop in Juan Les Pins and I just had to buy them. Not only were they much cheaper than in London (considering it's the French Riviera) but also they have Velcro on the back of the shoe, making it easier for mothers and my sister to put these little ones on.
They also had a selection of normal colours such as navy, green, white, etc. I chose these because they are just cool enough to be worn by a newborn. Yeii! Kudos to Converse and their velcro trainers!

Because I need chocolate to survive, here is the best that French chocolate has to offer. I know, it's not like super fancy, but you can't ever go wrong with Mikado. Mikado's are addictive, and once you eat one you just can't stop. So, you can imagine my excitement when I saw these:
MIKADO DAIM!!!!
Thank you France! you rock!!

Wedding Season On The Go.

Wedding season is here, and as it always happens; women struggle to find something suitable to wear. Every wedding has a different crowd, and that means different dressing styles.
Do not despair, because this season is full of options. Options that are not only elegant, but also youthful, with splashes of colour and interesting accessories that bring out even the most plain of outfits.
This outfit, by Lela Rose is ideal for someone who feels young and is fierce! It does not matter what body shape you have, this dress will accentuate all the nice bits. The colour is bright and beautiful, it goes perfect with the nice weather. The pattern on the belt will make a nice waist and all eyes will be on you. Find it at net-a-porter.com

Both of these pairs of shoes are from YSL. I absolutely love YSL because it is simple, classic and I love how they always show a very feminine yet independent woman.
Both pairs are incredible for the wedding season. The neutral colours will make a great contrast with nicely tanned legs, or colourful dresses. The main thing to remember is that even though now trends are pointing towards platforms and wedges. This does not mean that we are always meant to 'stick to trends' but find what looks good on us, and keep those key pieces for moments like, well, WEDDING SEASON!
Yes, this shoes are not cheap, but they are classic designer pieces that can be worn forever. Think about it.

This small handbag is from Mango. I don't think it's a clutch, but it has the same size. It is extremely affordable and it is a key piece for the nice spring weather. It can be used as an accessory for Saturday Lunch with the girls, or for an elegant event such as going to Ascot or your best friend's wedding. The neutral pink goes with pretty much everything. Try mixing it with colourful patterns and wear a pair of nice wedges, or just combine it with a shirt and finish it with killer stilettos.

Wedding season makes me want to go shopping!

Kudos!

Fancy Some Spanish Rock?

The summer is approaching. Yes, I know it was only a few days ago when I was making all this fuzz about Spring, but now it is time to start looking for things to do this summer.

Some of you will be spending your well deserved money attending Music Festivals, others will probably go abroad and the remaining londoners will stay in London to enjoy what the city has to offer.
I can't blame them, London is full of fun things to do, there is something for everybody out here.
That is why, if you are looking to do something a bit different, I know exactly where to go.
Scala is having a Mega Spanish Party with 'Pereza' on the 11th of June, 2011.
For those of you who don't know Pereza (it means laziness in Spanish), they are a very popular rock band in Spain. They have a great attitude, and even though they are not the next Rolling Stones, I guarantee it will be a good night.

For those of you who don't speak Spanish, do not worry, I can guarantee there is nothing more fun than hanging out with drunk Spanish people, it will be memorable.
If you are interested in attending, the tickets are only 20 pounds if you buy them online, and 25 pounds on the door.
You might see me there, who knows?
 Spanish Party Fiesta!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Music Splits

After years of  depression, drugs and uncertainty The Music have finally decided to split.
It is sad sad times for all of those who enjoyed their tunes, but I suppose it is only normal for these things to happen.
For those of you who don't know who The Music were, they were a rock band from Leeds. They started their career in 1999 and after releasing three studio albums, the end has come.
Fans will argue about whether their music became less and less powerful with time, but in my opinion, they were always good, just stuck in time. Music constantly evolves, and in the case of 'The Music', I think they just could not evolve because they had already created a new trend, something beautiful..
Their music and lyrics gave a new sense to what I know as music, and as ironic as it might sound,  the band name 'The Music' was always perfect, that's who they were, music..
Vocalist Robert Harvey is an extremely talented young man, so I just hope we hear more from him in the not too distant future.

Here is Getaway, by The Music.

You'll be missed.
