High Tea of Highgate

Tea, tea, tea.. I am a coffee person myself, but I do enjoy popping to tea houses every now and then to see what's up. Tea Houses are always beautiful, they always smell nice and there is NEVER the possibility of leaving empty handed. If you don't end up buying some random tea, you leave with scones, pastries or an apron..
Last week I had the honour of coming across the 'High Tea of Highgate', a beautiful tea place located well, in Highgate.
The atmosphere of the place is very relaxed and retro. While 50's music is playing in the background, you can sit down and start with the tea choosing. Their selection is extremely varied, from English teas to Green, White, Red, etc. My personal favourite was the Vanilla Rooibos tea accompanied with the Chocolate Sponge Cake. Yum!

The shop also sells all kinds of lovely items like birthday cards, aprons (see? they all sell them), wrapping paper and even blankets for the cold months ahead..

The most iconic thing about the shop is the beautiful chandelier made of cups.. Loved it!

Kudos High Tea of Highgate. You make me proud..Xx

V&A Museum of Childhood.

My weekend was not exactly the most fun. It was sad, depressing and frankly, quite boring. It took me a couple of days to recover, and the Museum of Childhood was the perfect cure.. Mary Poppins would be proud.

The museum is located in Bethnal Green, and the building itself is Beautiful. As soon as you walk in, there is an air of magic and surprises. All this bragging about it comes from the conclusion that it is by far one of the best museums I have ever come across. Yes it is not a Guggenheim, or a Louvre, but kids love it.
You can play with lights, take workshops, dress up and even ride a horse.. Yes, adults can do it too, I did it, so what? I don't regret it!

The museum features a vast collection of toys and children's artifacts, including Doll Houses, soldier moldings and castings, cameras, and toys made out of recycled materials such as lollipop sticks and soda cans. Each toy comes with a small description of how it was made, or where it came from. To attract children, the museum uses a 'Children's Trail' throughout the museum, where they can find clues, have fun, and learn at the same time.

If you have any little ones, or if you simply feel like being a bit Peter Pan, then head straight there, I promise you won't regret it. Have a look at all the different toys I photographed and I guarantee that at least you had one of them!

Ps. The souvenir shop is INCREDIBLE. Perfect for random presents.

Kudos museum of Childhood! xx

Goswell Cafe and its Funky Art

Have u ever come across a place where pound coins are glued to the table to trick you, or where you can pick up books and read bizarre literature while Boy George stares at you like a chameleon?
If you said yes to any of the above, then we have both been to the same place. Let the magic begin.
The Goswell Cafe is the hot spot for City University students and trendy peeps living around the Old Street area. The Cafe also functions as a library, source for free Internet and a great place to read and relax while enjoying the artwork.
The place is a must see for anybody walking past the area. Their toasted sandwiches are to die for and their drink selection is great, from organic cola to delicious smoothies...

Kudos Goswell xx

Sneaky Sound System- I Saw A UFO.

My boyfriend thinks he sees UFO's on a daily basis. I always smile at him and nod when he asks if I just saw the 'orange light' above our house.. Truth is, he has been watching too much FRINGE.
I was in stitches when in MTV HD they showed this song 'I Saw A UFO'... and the lyrics continue, 'but nobody believes me...'

Sneaky Sound System are a Sydney- based band. Their music used to be very different until Pop moguls decided to make 'Electro Pop' the next best thing. Now, instead of Sneaky Sound System I have to listen to David Guetta's concoctions with Z-list celebrities. I mean, who puts Flo-rida on their tune? sigh..
Anyhow, moving forward.. Give a good listen to this band, and especially this song. It is a crazy song. I love it!

Kudos Sneaky Sound System!

For a Rainy Day...

Actually, when I say anything I mean everything except Friends or Two and a Half Men, which I have already seen like a zillion times.. Come on Comedy Central Executives, listen to my tune and chill..

Kudos Kings of Convenience!

PAVEMENT - Virgin Media Shorts '11

Check out my latest acting gig, 'Pavement'. A girl who has lost all memory of her friend’s death regains it all in an instant the moment she returns to the street where it happened. It is all an  interpretation of the poetic works by Evelyn Waugh and William Blake. Directed and Produced by Joyce Datiles, Arcadia Redux Productions, 2011.
Poetically beautiful and engaging...

The short film was sent to the Virgin Media Shorts Competition. If selected as one of the 12 finalists, it will be screened in cinemas all around Europe and the UK (let's hope so) so those cinema fans out there can vote online in September, 2011.
So have a look, not only at Pavement but also at some of the other short films and I can guarantee that there is not that much competition. muahaha.

Monopoly..

Braveheart bought a Monopoly 'London Underground' edition. Did I like it? Yes, of course I did, but I am still quite pissed off about the game lacking ANGEL as a stop. I mean, what Londoner doesn't like Angel?? I literally, live, eat and breathe in Angel...
Anyhow, despite my anger towards their lack of 'Customer Research' I ventured into this battle with Braveheart. He ended up winning and making a 'Murdoch-esque' empire while I ended up doing the dishes crying in despair.
Dammit Monopoly, you used to be fun, but now I am a grown up and I hate your fake money and your fake plastic fantastic hotels.
Damn you train stations!!!

Kudos xx

99 Cones With Flakes. (Recipe time)

I love these because I feel like a child when I eat them. I found this recipe on Cookie Girl's book 'EAT ME!'
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Ingredients:

12 flat-based ice cream cones
110 g/4oz unsalted butter, room temperature
110g/4oz caster sugar
3 large eggs
110g/4oz self-raising flour
1tsp baking powder
1tsp vanilla extract
4 chocolate flakes, cut into 3

For the icing:
225g/8oz unsalted butter, room temperature
450g/1lb icing sugar, sifted
2 tsp vanilla extract

Preparation:

1. Preheat the onven to 180C/ 350 F/ Gas 4.
Cut 12 squares of foil, each measuring 15 cm/6in, and press them into 12 regular muffin tin holes, letting the foil hang over the edges. Place an ice-cream cone in each piece of foil and wrap the foil around the cone to hold it in place.

2. Cream the butter and sugar together until pale and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, until well incorporated. Sift the flour and baking powder together and add this a third at a time to the batter. Add the vanilla extract.

3.Spoon the mixture into the cones, filling to just below the top of the cone. Place in the centre of the oven and bake for about 20 min so that the cakes are springy to the touch and a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean. Place on a wire rack and leave to cool.

4. Make the icing. Beat the butter so that it is pale and creamy and add the icing sugar and the vanilla.

5. Using a piping bag with a star-shapped nozzle, pipe the icing onto the cupcakes to create a Mr Whippy effect. Add a chocolate flake to each one.

The final result

Kudos 99 Cones with Flakes! xx

Taschen's London. (Book)

It is amazing the kind of treasures one can get for less than 30 pounds. I bought this book called Taschen's London, and it is pretty much a 'guide' to the best Hotels, Restaurants and Shops.

Starting with restaurants and jumping through categories, this literary treasure has reviews on everything from Nobu, Notting Hill Brasserie, Liberty of London and even Marylebone's Farmer's Market. The chapters are separated by neighbourhood to make it easier for foreign readers to locate the best of the best.
With beautiful pictures, maps, prices and recommendations, this book makes the essential coffee table book.

Little Angel Theatre, a piece of Heaven..

I remember my field trips from school were always really boring. Museums, exhibitions, blablablah I hated it. I hated having to go out 'to learn'. So, the other day I had an epiphany, when I was walking my dog and saw all these 4 year olds coming out of a little house next to my local park. I thought OMG, they are on a FIELD TRIP!!! but where? what is this house and how come I had never noticed it before?

Well, the little house turns out to be The Little Angel Theatre, a place were dreams, puppets and children come together. This place is considered a hidden gem in Angel, technically because it is very well hidden on a little passage that only a few locals know about.
The theatre started functioning in 1961, and its main purpose is to entertain and make people of all ages happy. Their current show is called 'The Magicians Daughter' and although it is recommended for ages 3 to 6, I will go and watch it.

I found out that they are also having a summer party on Saturday 9th July. Everybody is invited and there will be tons of fun activities for bothkids and grown ups. First a parade of puppets, followed by tours of the theatre and tons of workshops. The entry is FREE and everybody is welcome to come!

Some of the theatre's future opening shows include the ever so popular Pinocchio, Aladdin and Gingerbread Man.

If you are an adult and think that puppets are silly, try again because the Theatre knows how to cater for everybody. There is Adult Evening Puppetry Courses, where people learn from scratch the art of being a puppeteer.

Entry on Friday is 5 pounds for kids and adults.
So, what are you waiting for? Take someone for a night at the Little Angel Theatre and I guarantee it will be a very fun night!

Kudos Little Angel Theatre!
