Caribbean Flow. African and African Caribbean Design Diaspora

Continuing with my Caribbean matters, I introduce you to the best design festival I have seen in a long time.
The African and African Caribbean Design Diaspora '11 or AACDD is a 'Showcase of black creativity throughout the creative disciplines'. This means that everything and anything African or African Caribbean will be happening.

The festival debuted in 2010, and due to its high success, it is back for a second year.
It will take place between September 9th and the 25th, at the Bargehouse in the Oxo Tower Wharf. It is FREE ENTRY.

The AACDD will be full of exciting exhibitions, digital adventures and creative spaces.
The Royal College of Art will be showcasing an exhibition called 'RCA Black'. It will celebrate art and designs by African and A. Caribbean graduates that have been created over the last 60 years.

Below the Surface will be another interesting project to go and look at. Disposable cameras have been given to young people in the Caribbean and African communities throughout London in an attempt to show the real life of everyone living in these communities. The photos will be showcased and set up with the help of all these young people. It is a MUST SEE!

Connect to Art is another interesting exhibition. It helps different users to interact globally using an app that enables users to paint on a shared canvas. It's like digital graffiti on a wall. I love it. Obviously, there will be an African twist.

Last but not least, there is the Re-Loved Lounge. A space of 96 square meters that will be transformed.
Designers have paired up with 100% Design London and the British European Design Group in an attempt to create a sitting area using African and African Caribbean influences. These will be showcased in the fabrics, colours and accessories. I want to sit there!

These are only a few of the exhibitions taking place at the festival. Please be sure to look at the website for more information and for the opportunity to buy tickets for the private showcases.

Kudos Caribbean! Xx
